EJ When you first meet EJ, you'd think that she'd lived a blessed, healthy life. She doesn't walk as if she's ever been defeated or has ever found anyone brave enough to challenge her for that matter. She's self-assured, confident, and passionate about her job as the Director of food services at the Everett Gospel Mission.  Her story is quite the opposite. It's been a long road getting to this point in her life although she's quite sure that she's found her calling in life and is where she's supposed to be. Erica, who goes by EJ, is one of four sisters born to addicted parents. She was only with her Mother for the first nine months of her life before the state took custody of the children for the first time. Her Mother did get the kids back for a couple of years when EJ was six, but it didn't go well. Her mother tried to kill herself with a 9mm on the front porch of their house in front of her four children, all less than ten ye

Poverty 201 - Everett Gospel Mission

Hello everyone! I’m blogging live today from Poverty 201, I'm also the photographer and videographer. The event is really well attended which is great because word is getting out! People are getting engaged. There was a really great video they opened with this morning. While I'm not at all a religious man I thought the message was so strong. God of this City

There's a steam table near you!

Good morning America there’s a steam table somewhere near you and I bet you’d joy it as much as I do!

Quick update!

Hey Folks, I'm still out here and still volunteering! Some of my projects have been moving slower than I would like due to my work schedule recently. Simply put I went from a man with all the time in the World to a man that could barely find time to breathe in his day. Isn't this always the case? It's either "hurry up and wait", or start a new project that you really enjoy and then have no time left in your day to do it. Things are getting back on track for me so I'm going to start finishing up some writings, interviews, and photos soon. I just thought I would share my hours to show just how little time is needed to pop into the mission and help out. Most of these have been serving breakfast. I'm trying to make sure I get in twice a week. Once you get into a flow with the volunteering it becomes important to your soul. Give it a try if you can! Your Daddy Loves you.

Hope on a note, stuck on a whiteboard. Your Daddy Loves you. In a time where you can reach anyone in the world, people are still lost. Temporary notes searching for the impermanence of life.

Swimming in Eggs

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday, Volunteer log: Today I showed up at 6:47 AM and the beds were almost clear of the floor. It's an interesting fast paced dance of the clients in the morning that feels almost choreographed. Some are picking up the mats / beds off the floor while others grab the pillows. There's no delineation between whose bed is who's and the same applies to the pillows. It all gets packed up into adjacent storage. While this is happening round tables are being rolled out along with the chairs. It's like that Disney movie where the candlesticks and plates dance around singing. It's pretty impressive and it only lasts about 10 minutes. This morning I jumped right in helping to cook a large flat top of scrambled eggs. The equipment is nice but the kitchen is long and tight so you have to stay close to what your doing so the other volunteers can get around you. It only takes a couple minutes to finish up a large batch of eggs. Today there was also
